Ferrari Unveils SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider - The Ultimate Hybrid Supercars

With the release of the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider, Ferrari, the legendary Italian automaker renowned for its potent and luxurious sports vehicles, has once again lifted the standard.

Based on the SF90 Stradale, these V8-powered plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) represent the pinnacle of performance and engineering.

The SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider represent the culmination of Ferrari's two decades of experience in developing special versions of its road cars and the XX Programme, which offers extraordinary track cars to a limited group of expert client drivers. Models such as the 488 Pista and 812 Competizione have established new standards for performance and control, while the XX Programme has demonstrated Ferrari's track technology at its finest, with the FXX-K EVO being the most recent addition to the programme.

Combining the best of both realms, Ferrari has produced street-legal automobiles that incorporate the engineering concepts of both the special versions and the XX Programme. The enhanced performance of the SF90 XX Stradale elevates the thrilling track experience of the SF90 Stradale to new heights. Its impressive 1,030 cv power output (30 more than the SF90 Stradale), specific software logics, and innovative aerodynamic solutions, including a fixed rear spoiler, generate an extraordinary 530 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.

The SF90 XX Spider, on the other hand, combines the ultimate track adrenaline surge with the enjoyment of open-air motoring. Its sophisticated aerodynamic solutions and specially designed cockpit air fluxes assure maximum occupant comfort, even with the retractable hard top (RHT) deployed at velocities up to 45 kilometres per hour. The distinctive sound of the Ferrari V8 engine enhances the driving experience, making every trip a sensory delight.

Similar to the SF90 Stradale and SF90 Spider, the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider both utilise a plug-in hybrid powertrain layout. Three electric motors are incorporated with the V8 internal combustion engine, two on the front axle and one between the engine and transmission at the rear. This configuration enables a maximal power output of 1,030 cv, establishing new standards for performance.

The SF90 XX Stradale's internal combustion engine is a mid-rear-mounted V8 turbocharged unit with 797 horsepower, further enhancing the performance capabilities of this extraordinary automobile. Through enhancements such as increased efficiency, a higher compression ratio, and weight reduction, Ferrari has created an engine with exceptional power and thrilling performance.

The SF90 XX Stradale features a redesigned soundscape that encapsulates the essence of its racing spirit to complement its potent engine. Throughout the entire rev range, the hot tube system has been optimised to produce a fuller, more robust sound. Innovative materials and modifications to the intake plenum and resonator result in an acoustic symphony that resonates with automobile enthusiasts.

Electric motors play a crucial role in the SF90 XX Stradale's exceptional performance. These motors, which have a combined maximum power production of 233 cv, operate in tandem with the internal combustion engine to provide impressive acceleration and dynamic capabilities. The electric motors are powered by a high-performance lithium-ion battery, which provides a full-electric range of 25 kilometres and a maximum speed of 135 kilometres per hour when the internal combustion engine is turned off.

The aerodynamic performance of the SF90 XX Stradale is unparalleled in the annals of Ferrari road cars, rivalling that of the LaFerrari supercar. The vehicle provides twice as much downforce as the SF90 Stradale, resulting in enhanced traction and quicker lap times. To accommodate the increased power, the coolant flow management and engine compartment were redesigned to improve the vehicle's aerodynamics.

The rear fixed wing, derived from the XX Programme vehicles, contributes significantly to the aerodynamics of the vehicle. It interacts with the pressure and backpressure systems surrounding the closed Gurney to generate rear downforce and vertically deflect incoming flow. Additionally, the vehicle has redesigned front radiators, side louvres, and a front splitter for enhanced ventilation and downforce.

The SF90 XX Stradale seeks to deliver optimum performance while retaining the functionality of the SF90 Stradale's hybrid powertrain from the standpoint of vehicle dynamics. The transition between electric and hybrid modes is seamless, allowing for uninterrupted acceleration. The vehicle features torque vectoring, energy recovery, and Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (2.0) to improve its handling. The ABS EVO controller enhances stopping power and consistency.

The SF90 XX Stradale combines the radical track car design of its antecedent with the pristine lines of its successor. Its aerodynamic performance is enhanced by its rear wing, arrow-shaped front wing, and unique lower wings. Elements made of carbon fibre accentuate the vehicle's technical aspects. Inside, weight reduction and a racing-inspired cockpit design were priorities.

The rear of the SF90 XX Spider has been modified to incorporate the traditional flying buttress design with the arrow motif of the front, resulting in a distinctive and recognisable architecture. Compared to the SF90 XX Stradale, this visual effect makes the vehicle appear lower and more streamlined from the side. The SF90 XX Spider's roof features a seamless integration of the windscreen and side windows, which contributes to the lowered centre of gravity.

This model's soaring buttresses are placed lower than on the SF90 XX Stradale, enhancing the overall visual effect and preserving a streamlined appearance. When the roof is reduced, the protruding carbon-fiber roll-bars do not detract from the car's streamlined appearance. When the roof is elevated, the roll-bars integrate seamlessly with the structure of the roof. The retractable hardtop made of carbon fibre can be opened or closed in just 14 seconds at speeds up to 45 kilometres per hour, allowing for optimal vehicle enjoyment in a variety of weather conditions.
