Browser-Based 3D Virtual World Platform Decentraland's Upcoming Metaverse Fashion Week Looks Exciting

Virtual social universe Decentraland is continuing its preparations for Metaverse Fashion Week, which will take place March 24–27. Over the course of four days, Decentraland will include runway shows, fashion experiences, pop-up stores, and afterparties featuring digital, wearable creations from established designers.

The fashion industry as a whole has been increasing its metaverse footprint in recent years, and the scope of this next virtual fashion week demonstrates just how important the digital realm has become for artists.

"Fashion and haute couture are not new concepts in the metaverse,"
stated Sam Hamilton, artistic director of the Decentraland Foundation.
"Since the advent of avatar wearables in 2020, Decentraland has been on the bleeding edge of unique and in-demand digital fashion. Since then, designers have pushed the technological and artistic boundaries of Decentraland wearables, resulting in a thriving market with over a million dollars in avatar wearables sales last year."

Activations in the luxury industry

Set in Decentraland's newest Luxury Fashion District, UNXD and Vogue Arabia will host numerous catwalks featuring some of the industry's most prestigious fashion labels. The runway will include Dolce & Gabbana, Dundas, and Etro, as well as digital fashion firms like The Fabricant and a collection of emerging designers.

Selfridges will unveil their metaverse flagship shop at the site, including an immersive experience by Paco Rabanne and Victor Vasarely, to kick off the event. The virtual shopping district already has retail sites and activations from a number of well-known labels, including Tommy Hilfiger, Elie Saab, and Franck Muller, as well as storefronts selling DressX's collaboration with Merts Otsamo and Nicholas Kirkwood's White Rabbit NFT collection.

Guo Pei, a Chinese couture designer, will also be a part of the event, showcasing a sensory experience in collaboration with UNXD.

A collection of immersive encounters, markets, and activations

Along with an extensive calendar of runway presentations and shoppable collections, Decentraland activations will span almost the whole of its virtual realm.

Charli Cohen's Electric/City experience, an online environment inspired by the designer's Pokémon collection, will be on display, as will Metaparty's Community Precinct, which will include mini-games and a MetaTokyo pop-up museum showcasing the work of fashion photographers.

Additionally, a number of digital organisations have sponsored the appearance of chosen designers in their specific zones. Rarible, the NFT marketplace, will sponsor Decentraland's Designers Street, which will include an area dedicated to rising streetwear designers and will feature exclusive garment releases from The Fabricant, Perry Ellis, Fresh Couture, and Placebo. Dragon City will feature Asian designers and companies in its virtual realm, while the Metaloop by Kollectiff area will have runway presentations from labels such as Cider, Anrealage, and 8sian.

Art and cinema will also play a significant part throughout the event, with the majority of them taking place at CashLabs' Art Gallery and Screening Room, which will host a variety of shows by notable artists. A special movie theatre in the virtual world will screen fashion films by Chanel and House of Lanvin, while the CashLabs team will conduct multiple fashion seminars by prominent industry professionals.

Finally, according to the traditional fashion week schedule, each day will conclude with after-show parties hosted by Dolce & Gabbana, Faith Connexion, and Faith Tribe x Blondish.
