British Luxury Automobile Maker Aston Martin Will Unveil The DBR22 at 2022 The Monterey Car Week

Monterey, California, on August 15, 2022:

The DBR22 will be unveiled by Aston Martin during the 2022 Monterey Car Week as a V12-powered, two-seater coach-built design concept that pays homage to the company's history of open-cockpit sports racing. The car has a unique coach-built shape that is constructed from few body panels to give it a chiselled, muscular appearance.

The DBR22 design concept, revealed in California, is the latest in a long series of outstanding projects skilfully handled by Q by Aston Martin, the company's in-house bespoke business, which this year celebrates a decade of constructing rare automobiles for the world's most demanding clients. Iconic one-off commissions, such as the Aston Martin Victor, and low-volume specials, such as the Vulcan, which was restricted to 24 vehicles globally, and the Vantage V600, which was limited to just 14, are great instances of these partnerships. The DBR22 design idea should also form the foundation of a production reality example for a small number of Q by Aston Martin clients.

DBR22 is a perfect mix of design purity, engineering accuracy, heart-pounding performance, and genuine enthusiasm, achieved by combining the traditional art of coachbuilding with cutting-edge materials and production methods. A flawless celebration of the potential of Q by Aston Martin. All of this is highlighted by the fact that it is one of the rarest Aston Martins in the brand's 109-year history.

DBR22 unabashedly evokes past – especially Aston Martin's illustrious legacy of world-beating two-seater open-cockpit sportscars such as the DBR1 and DB3S – but does so with a dynamic new interpretation of this fascinating motif.

The DB3S is a significant part of Aston Martin's competitive history. Introduced in 1953, Frank Feeley's alloy DB3S body became well-known for its curves and aerodynamic efficiency, establishing Aston Martin as a major competitor in the Le Mans race and yielding outstanding results in the process. DBR1, known as the ultimate Aston Martin sportscar, took Feeley's design language a step further and became one of the most influential Aston Martins of all time - winning a number of notable races, the most famous of which was Le Mans in 1959, driven by Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori, and leading the Aston Martin team to the ultimate victory: winning the World Sports Car Championship in the same year.

The Aston Martin designers have created a whole new body for the DBR22 design idea. Its excellent coach-built design is carved from fewer body panels to provide a more sculpted, muscular appearance. The outcome is a seamless and easy combination of extraordinary drama and elegance, complemented by various distinctive design elements.

A notable feature is the completely redesigned front grille, which has a carbon fibre design in lieu of the customary veins seen on Aston Martins in serial production. This design takes direct influence from the DBR1 and DB3S, giving it a distinct identity; one that obviously relies on Aston Martin's legacy, but utilises this inspiration to create a totally modern look.

Under the hood is a 5.2-liter V12 Twin-Turbo engine with a Twin-Turbo compressor. The hood has a horseshoe-shaped air intake that is lowered to improve airflow. This long, uninterrupted bonnet line brings the attention back to the cockpit, above the lowline wind deflector and delicate mirrors, which are set on thin, wind-cheating carbon fibre arms at the tops of the doors.

A pair of brand-new 21-inch alloy wheels fit neatly within the wheel arches. These lightweight wheels include a unique 14-spoke design built just for the DBR22, as well as a centre-lock hub adapted from racing, and a broad colour palette.

The DBR22 design idea also has a totally unique paint colour, designed exclusively for the occasion using 'Paint to Sample' - an exclusive option offered via Q by Aston Martin, showcasing once again the immense creative possibilities achievable through the brand's bespoke service.

The cockpit of the DBR22 maintains the blend of traditional and modern design with several unique components and heavy use of leather and exposed carbon fibre. With architecture exemplified by the brand-new dashboard and elegant infotainment screens, it creates a streamlined, clutter-free atmosphere. The DBR22 is not a stripped-down racer, despite being inspired by Aston Martin's world-beating racing vehicles. Soft aromatic hides envelop the modern dashboard, the carbon fibre performance seats, and the door tops to provide an enticing suggestion of the inside.

Twin nacelles rise from behind the seats to smooth the airflow behind the driver and passenger's heads. The back of the DBR22 design idea has a recognisable horizontal light graphic, created by a thin, full-width light bar custom-made for this purpose. A perforated plate lies underneath it to enable hot air to escape the tail. This exquisitely sculpted component is just another unique element of the DBR22's captivating design. Together with the seamlessly integrated diffuser and pair of large diameter exhaust tailpipes, the DBR22 has exceptional road presence, perfectly conveying the raw feeling of driving.

Q by Aston Martin provides clients of all Aston Martin models the opportunity to build a one-of-a-kind vehicle by providing a broad selection of extras via its renowned custom service. In addition to paint colours and finishes, unique graphics, tinted carbons, and bespoke materials, each Q by Aston Martin vehicle may push the boundaries of style and client demand.

With peak outputs of 715PS and 753Nm, the DBR22 can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 3.4 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 198mph/319km/h. With just the slipstream separating the driver from this engine's indelible twelve-cylinder roar, the DBR22 promises to be an extreme sensory stimulus.

The chassis of the DBR22 has been fine-tuned to give equal measures of accuracy, agility, and feel. The engine and 8-speed paddle-shift automatic gearbox are calibrated with torque shaping to offer the DBR22 a unique demeanour and performance. A pinned steering column not only increases precision, but also delivers more precise input, allowing the driver to form a more precise image of available grip.

The chassis construction of the DBR22 has also been given special consideration. Unique front and rear shear panels further boost torsional stiffness, while a unique calibration for the adaptive dampers provides accuracy and pliancy for a mix of body control and ride refinement that makes the DBR22 an absolute joy to drive, whether on the road or the racetrack.

The DBR22 is also equipped with a 3D-printed rear subframe, a first for Aston Martin. Multiple 3D-printed aluminium sections are then joined together to create the subframe of the component. The benefits are evident, with a large weight reduction and no loss of stiffness, as well as the possibility to produce specific components for ultra-low volume versions when necessary.

Roberto Fedeli, Aston Martin's Chief Technical Officer, said, "Technology plays a crucial role in the development of the DBR22, with substantial usage of carbon fibre throughout and 3D printing used to produce a structural component. As so, DBR22 exemplifies Aston Martin's distinctive qualities, combining world-class design with an agile, intelligent engineering and manufacturing strategy. For a vehicle that was created to honour the utmost in personalised customization, DBR22's technical advancements ensure that its driving experience is just as addictive as its appearance."

Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, Marek Reichman, adding, "We put our design systems into "hyper-drive," pushing the research of formalism further and striving to depict the future in the present. Where might the surfaces, proportions, and forms go? We have successfully modernised our racing lineage and produced a fresh pedigree by combining this strategy with updated technique, technology, and materials. DBR22 is a hot-blooded, thoroughbred Aston Martin sports car brimming with speed, agility, and character, and a vehicle that we believe will serve as the foundation for many of the icons of future".

The DBR22 design idea will be on exhibit from Friday, August 19, through Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the Pebble Beach Concours D' Elegance.
