Nordstrom was founded more than a century ago, by a shoemaker and an immigrant. The brand which started from rags, grabbed its earned riches soon and still maintains its position there. The brand was established as Wallin & Nordstrom in 1901, on Forth and Pike in Seattle. The founders of the company, John W. Nordstrom and Carl F. Wallin, inaugurated this company as a shoe store in the streets of Seattle. John Nordstrom moved to Seattle when he was 16 year old, with almost no money, and then worked hard to collect enough money to start-up a small scale business. On the other hand, Carl Wallin was a shoe maker and offered to share the business. Both the founders started the business with no clue of the future they were crafting together. 

The brand grew and opened its second store almost two decades after the foundation. Gradually the label was taken over by the children and grandchildren of Nordstrom, and renamed the brand as Nordstrom Best in 1967 but changed the name to ‘Nordstrom' in 1973. The brand grew rapidly and the heads of the brand grew it to more business by launching women’s apparel and later men’s and children’s clothing too. Their annual turnover surpassed $100 million during the late 90’s and the brand became largest business in U. S. They launched their website nordstrom.com in 1998 and served the customers there. The brand stretched its paws to use online mode to give a head run to their business, when it was not even necessary. Their website currently serves almost 96 countries across the world.

This century old brand is like a grandfather to all other contemporary brands, yet it attempts to race amongst the overcrowded marketplace with its versatile products. Nordstrom is now under the guidance of CEO Erik Nordstrom and chairman Brad D. Smith. Their almost 100 stores are available at different locations worldwide, and the headquarters being situated at Seattle, Washington, U.S. Their stores are extremely welcoming for the customers, and their customer service is commendable. The employees of the brand are encouraged and trained to make the customer experience comfortableness and at ease while shopping in the stores. Even their helpline numbers answer the calls mostly by the second or third ring. Several instances of the staff helping the customers humbly with patience have hit the news. Such measures have definitely created a better relationship of the brand and customer. The products offered by the brand are wide-ranging from footwear, apparels, accessories to cosmetics and house decors. Nordstrom Inc. at present holds several subsidiary brands under its umbrella, including Jeffrey, Last Chance, Trunk Club, BP and Halogen. Most of the pieces are under $300, and the quality of the products are luxurious. Some of these in-house brands are specialized in creating certain kind of clothes such as work wear, occasion wear or designer wear. The whole brand has increased the trust and inclination of the customers towards them, not only by creating a good product but also enforcing good marketing and enhancing customer experience.
