Malaika Arora Modelled For Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna's Fibonacci Collection at FDCI India Couture Week 2022

The Fibonacci sequence served as inspiration for this exhibition, which features elements of architecture, design, and high fashion.

Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, a design pair, debuted their new collection Fibonacci at FDCI India Couture Week on July 28, 2022, with Malaika Arora as the show's main attraction. Artist Akon Mitra constructed the elaborate set, which included a wave shown in precise mathematical proportion by assembling thousands of origami pieces that spanned over a ramp.

In their own words, "We produced this collection for the global India dancing at a Sangeet one evening and waltzing throughout Vienna's antique ballrooms another night." There are up to two thousand hours of labour put into each item. Patterns established by Fibonacci's irrational numbers were brought to life on the runway with clothes that drew out their beauty and aesthetic extravagance. Every design is standardised and constructed from distinct elements. The books in the anthology depict a utopian society that has been restored after being on the verge of collapse.

Couture items of mineral blue to midnight blue were shown on the runway, with models strutting in tulles, organzas, and velvets adorned with pearls, crystals, and sequins. The various grey, coral, hearthstone, and teal tones used as accents served as visual focal points. This evening's performance sparkled like a starry sky thanks to the lavish use of cutwork, gems, and tassels. Presented for men were tailored jackets, sheer embroidered shirts, draped kurtas, and layered suits, while for ladies there were cocktail lehengas, draped sarees, and dresses.

Everyone stopped to stare when Malaika Arora, the show's star, walked out in a midnight-blue, transparent, embroidered gown with a thigh-grazing split and plunging neckline. She said as she walked the runway,

"I adore couture and nobody does it quite like Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna."

Fibonacci is evidence of the legendary design team's commitment to learning from the study of structure in other disciplines and applying that knowledge to their own work. The presentation focused on haute couture evening attire designed with an architect's eye.
