Beyond Bold Auction by AstaGuru is a Showcase of Indian Contemporary Art Marvels

AstaGuru's 'Beyond Bold' auction is all set to offer a stunning display of Indian contemporary art on December 16-17, 2023. The auction will feature a variety of over 100 artworks by acclaimed contemporary artists like Subodh Gupta, Nalini Malani, Jitish Kallat, and many more.

This carefully selected collection spans paintings, sculptures, and mixed media, highlighting the latest trends in art and offering a glimpse into the future of contemporary art.

Simone Mody, a curatorial specialist at AstaGuru, shared their excitement about showcasing works that redefine Indian art. These artworks, rooted in diverse cultural backgrounds, blend personal and universal themes, showcasing the richness of contemporary Indian art in both subject and style. The artists' innovative use of materials adds a new dimension to India's art scene, attracting collectors eager to diversify their collections.

One of the auction's highlights is Subodh Gupta's 'Pink,' a vibrant piece created with steel tongs, resembling a cheerleader’s pompom. Estimated at INR 60,00,000 80,00,000, this work reflects Gupta's knack for turning everyday objects into art.

Nataraj Sharma's piece from the Swimmer Manual series, estimated at INR 30,00,000 – 40,00,000, offers commentary on the human-landscape-urbanization nexus. Ranbir Singh Kaleka's 'Angelo’s Sanctuary,' known for his surreal compositions, is expected to fetch between INR 5,00,000 – 7,00,000.

Vibha Galhotra's creation, incorporating nickel-coated ghunghroos and fabric, highlights themes of displacement and urban change, with an estimated sale price of INR 20,00,000 30,00,000.

The auction also features works by prominent women artists like Nalini Malani and Mithu Sen, among others.

Surendran Nair's vibrant and metaphor-rich canvases from his Cuckoonebulopolis series and another combining classical and contemporary themes, both have an estimated sale price of INR 20,00,000 - 30,00,000.

Raqib Shaw's signature-style creation, adorned with oil, acrylic, glitter, enamel, and rhinestones, is estimated at INR 20,00,000 - 25,00,000.

Suryakant Lokhande's portrayal of Lord Krishna, estimated at INR 10,00,000 - 15,00,000, and a sculpture by L N Tallur, expected to be acquired at INR 15,00,000 – 20,00,000, showcase the diversity of the collection.

Valay Shende's sculptures of superheroes in stainless steel discs are each estimated at INR 20,00,000 – 30,00,000.

The auction also includes seven sculptural works by various artists, demonstrating the breadth of contemporary Indian sculpture.

Founded in 2008, AstaGuru Auction House is a pioneer in online auctions, offering a wide range of categories from art to rare collectibles. They were the first in India to present an exclusive edition for vintage and classic cars in 2018.
