The Berlin Film Festival was founded way back in West Berlin in 1951 and it has been conducted the every February from the year 1978. With a sale of almost 300,000 tickets and almost 500,000 visitors each year, the Berlin Film Festival surely attracts the biggest attending crowd among any annual film festival of its kind. Almost 400 films are shown in various sections across cinematic genres.

Twenty films compete for the festival's top awards: Golden Bear and a number of Silver Bears.
