The Watch That Will Keep Buffering...Till The End of Time

Quirks in the luxury market are no surprise. A lot of brands make use of humour, wit and unusual creativity to create unique products that can attract and baffle all the same. Growing competition in every market means that customers have several brands serving them similar products, and after a point, settling on one particular brand becomes a matter of convenience and perceived comfort. THIS has become the greatest challenge for companies today. Not just the overwhelming saturation of the market or the vicious business competition, but the fact that customers are simply too used to the mundane. It is a consistent challenge for brands to come up with new, engaging products that customers can feel comfortable using and yet excited by. However, the masters can survive even in the most unfavourable of situations.

A terrific example of the same is Swiss luxury watchmaker H. Moser & Cie. In 2019, the company launched an eccentric mechanical watch that resembles the Apple watch in structure, but has no hands. The only way to tell the time using this watch is by listening to the sounds of the internal circuitry. This unique contraption is priced at a whopping $350,000.

In 2021, it has gotten better still. The watchmaker has launched the Swiss Alp Watch Final Upgrade, which does have hands, and is also a watch that bears resemblance to the Apple watch, but additionally features the infamous loading sign.

Baffled yet?

The loading sign in question, with shaded discs and openings in the dial, serves as the second’s hand. It bears resemblance to the annoying loading sign we all have drilled holes into with our eyes in frustration countless times. Imagine seeing that loading sign every time you happen to glance at your wrist. Further still, this watch is priced at $30,800. Apart from being a baffling Apple watch lookalike, it is, in its entirety, a top-notch luxury smartwatch. Its features include a the Swiss HMC 324 hand-wound movement that has a minimum power reserve of 96 hours, which can be partially observed through the slick glass back. The watch also features an impressive super-black, Vantablack dial (Vantablack is known to be the darkest man-made material, one that captures 99.965 percent of light photons), and comes with a classy black alligator leather strap.
