In March 2010, a wounded Olive Ridley turtle named Oceane was rescued by the dive team at Four Seasons Resorts Maldives. What began as a spontaneous act of compassion has since transformed into one of the Indian Ocean’s most advanced and enduring sea turtle conservation programs. Over the past 15 years, Four Seasons Resorts Maldives has pioneered groundbreaking marine rehabilitation practices - restoring life, educating future conservationists, and redefining luxury through purpose-driven stewardship.
Where Marine Care Meets Maldivian Hospitality
The Maldivian Sea Turtle Conservation Programme (MSTCP), born in 2011 through a partnership with Reefscapers, has since flourished into a full-fledged marine rescue initiative.
Two state-of-the-art Turtle Rehabilitation Centres - at Landaa Giraavaru and Kuda Huraa - now anchor the program, supporting over 500 rescued turtles, with 280+ successfully released back into the wild.
With continual innovation at its heart, the programme boasts facilities including an ocean enclosure, on-site veterinarians, and advanced medical equipment such as endoscopes, underwater ultrasound scanners, and laser therapy. The spirit of the initiative lies in its commitment to compassion, research, and long-term ecological impact.
The Flying Turtles – Ambassadors of Survival

Peggy, an amputee turtle who relearned how to dive in Belgium, became a symbol of resilience. Her eventual release and 5,700 km journey back to India’s coastline is nothing short of remarkable - a testament to instinct, endurance, and rehabilitation.
Education with Purpose – The Next Wave of Marine Stewards

Community outreach also plays a key role - engaging local schools, NGOs, and global institutions to foster a broader conservation ecosystem. This multi-layered educational approach ensures the legacy of turtle care continues far beyond the resort’s shores.
A Legacy of Innovation – The Story of Trooper

Crafted with Care, Rooted in Responsibility
“It’s been an incredible fifteen years of turtle-based learning, growth and unforgettable moments. By strengthening our partnerships with international marine centres, we aim to amplify the global message about ghost nets and ensure turtles who cannot be released live on as symbols of hope.”
The turtle team encourages all guests and conservation advocates to adopt mindful habits - eliminate single-use plastics, choose sustainable seafood, and support global efforts to reduce ghost net threats.
